Cleaning and Care

Congratulations on your purchase! We hope your new rug brings you many years of enjoyment. To keep your rug looking its best, it is important to maintain and clean your area rug on a regular basis to extend the life and overall appearance over time. 

Vacuuming - Try to vacuum your rug once a week or as needed. It is important that you do not use the beater bar attachment if possible or choose a setting for a high pile on an upright vacuum. If your vacuum has variable power settings, set it on low. Push the vacuum slowly across the surface in lengthways in one direction then turn and repeat the next area rather than a back and forth motion. Use a hose or an upholstery attachment around the binding on the edges and corners. Be careful not to get the binding caught in a beater bar as it could unravel. 

Spills and Stains - Immediately blot the spill with a clean, white cloth or paper towel. Never rub into the fibers. Be sure to remove any crumbs or solids with a blunt object such as the back of a butter knife. To lift the spill, use a mixture of ¼ teaspoon of clear, dye free, dish soap with 1 cup warm water and dab at the area. Repeat until clear of residue and rinse with a clean cloth and dry. Once fully dry, vacuum the area to restore the fibers. If that does not work, try a mixture of a tablespoon of white vinegar in 2 cups of warm water and repeat the process. 

For tougher stains that have aged, you may need to purchase a rug cleaning product. Please make sure to follow instructions on the label!

For odors, sprinkle baking soda over the surface and let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Vacuum thoroughly. 

Avoid wearing shoes on the rug as it will attract more dirt and increase the wear on the fibers. 

Rotate your rug every few months. This will allow the heavily trafficked areas to wear evenly and allow vacuuming in hard to reach areas. 

Hire a professional when needed. Some dirt does settle into the fibers over time that may be difficult to clean. Professional cleaning every year or so will remove any older stain residue and restore the original beauty of the rug.
